The Grand Army was above the Gunnell on Prosser Gulch.  It was one of the most productive in the district.  The shaft of the mine was 1200 feet deep and operated as late as 1917.  A winze from the 1100 foot level connected with a  raise from the Newhouse Tunnel.  The Gilpin Tramway shipped its first train of ore from the mine on December 12, 1887.
